What has changed for you since moving into stable housing?
Moving into Housing Hope at Twin Lakes Landing has been a blessing. I was staying in a shelter after being homeless for years. I was pregnant and just had my daughter, Layla. Two weeks later, her dad passed away. I had no idea what I was going to do. It was terrifying. Fast forward to Christmas of 2017, we got our kids into a two-bedroom apartment. It was such a blessing. I was able to give my children a home, a bed, and a good mother. Since I got into housing, I was able to focus on myself and my family. I was able to get my driver’s license, start my GED, get my own car, and most of all, provide a stable home for my kids.
What growth have you seen in yourself and/or your community in the last year?
I’m so happy for myself. In the last year, I dug myself out of a big dark hole. Today, I have 162 days clean and sober from everything. I’m also very proud of my community. We have made a complete 180-degree change. My favorite part of the whole week is coming together for our Recovery Connection meeting.
