Kindred Kitchen To Close It's Café. Renew To Close Permanently.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Kindred Café will be closing their doors on Friday January 30th, 2026Renew Home and Decor will also be closing it's doors on March 31st, 2026. Over the past several months, Housing Hope's leadership has been working diligently to bring our organization as close to a breakeven budget as possible. Unfortunately, we were unable to achieve this while continuing to operate the brick and mortar cafe portions of our social enterprises. Catering operations and our culinary kitchen training pathway through HopeWorks will not be impacted with this closure.

For years, we were able to sustain our enterprises and cover most of our general operating costs with the collected rental income. This cut reflects the poor financial performance of our housing portfolio.  The affordable housing industry is in severe distress, and Housing Hope is not immune to these challenges.

It is important to remember during these difficult times that these decisions are not based on personnel, although personnel are directly affected. All impacted staff have been notified, and we are offering as much support as possible to ensure a smooth transition from our workplace. We also recognize the impact on those who will remain employed here, and all impacted employees have support for their next steps via Housing Hope's Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which provides a safe, supportive, and confidential environment to process the effects of these closures.

Kindred Kitchen's Café and Renew Home & Decor have been integral to our organization, serving a vital role in our community and providing growth and training opportunities for our trainees. The closure of these programs does not diminish the significant impact it has had on our community and the participants we served.

All of the difficult decisions being made at Housing Hope aim to ensure the sustainability of our organization for decades to come. Housing and supportive services are the cornerstone of our mission, and until that cornerstone is solidified once again, we will continue to make adjustments to the lines of business and programs we can operate. Housing Hope leadership is committed to focusing our time and efforts on supporting a thriving housing portfolio and robust program services.

I want to emphasize that we will continue to operate our Training Academy. While Kindred Café will no longer serve as a pathway for our trainees, Kindred Kitchen will still provide catering and food production contract services, offering opportunities for trainees to participate and learn.
