Major improvements were completed on Friday (June 5) at Edmonds Lutheran Church, specifically to the sports court and surrounding community spaces. This volunteer beautification project was spearheaded by the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties.
Edmonds Lutheran was selected as the project site because many of our residents regularly utilize the community amenities and outdoor spaces located there.
These extensive improvements involved up to 10 volunteers as they built and installed two picnic tables in the sports court area, which created additional seating and a gathering space for residents and families. These dedicated volunteers also installed a chain-link backboard behind the basketball hoop to help prevent basketballs from entering the nearby flower and garden areas. This makes the space more functional and enjoyable for residents.
The team of volunteers also removed weeds throughout the sports court area, as well as picked up litter, and weeded around the community planter boxes that are actively used by residents for gardening. Because of their hard work, these volunteers transformed the appearance of the area and improved the usability of the outdoor space while also helping to maintain an important resident amenity.
In addition to their volunteer service, the Master Builders Association sponsored the build day with a $1,000 contribution and generously provided lunch for volunteers through Kindred Catering. Their support helped make the project a success and demonstrated a strong commitment to investing in our communities.
This community-based volunteer project was completed efficiently, as the volunteers made a meaningful impact by creating a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming environment for residents who use this space.
On the heels of this very successful project, the organization expressed a strong interest in returning this September to carry out an ambitious volunteer build day involving up to 25 volunteers. We intend to conduct conversations with their team over the coming months to explore project opportunities and work toward solidifying plans for a future partnership.
