Education in life-skills and other important competencies is essential for all families. Adults who have not acquired these assets face an uphill battle in reaching self-sufficiency. Housing Hope provides its residents with learning opportunities specially designed to empower them to improve their current situation.
College of Hope: Housing Hope’s innovative approach to life-skills training includes transportation to classes, a hot meal and childcare during the class session. Classes cover four core areas: family life, health and wellness, economic well-being, and housing expertise. The College of Hope is a collaboration of several Snohomish County non-profit agencies including Deaconess Children’s Services, Community Health Center and Pathways for Women-YWCA.
Residential Learning Communities: Each Housing Hope site functions on a community model, facilitated by trained case managers. Residents are actively engaged in creating their own quality living environment through the acquisition and application of skills such as conflict resolution. Resident Councils are created for each site and serve as the conduit for building community cohesion and awareness that become assets carried forward beyond their stay with Housing Hope.
In-Home Learning: Housing Hope provides residents with many easily accessible opportunities for personal growth. The agency’s social service staff makes regular visits to residents in the home environment, working directly with family members. Their focus is on acquiring useful knowledge areas such as positive family dynamics and the development of self-confidence leading to improved marketability.
Home Ownership Counseling: Housing Hope is dedicated to helping our low-income clients in Snohomish County and Camano Island become and remain successful homeowners. One-on-one pre-purchase counseling and homebuyer education classes help evaluate readiness for a home purchase. We address such issues as budgeting and establishing good credit, credit repair, understanding mortgage financing and down payment assistance programs, and how to avoid predatory lenders. Also provided is post-purchase housing counseling, including early delinquency intervention, budget counseling, and foreclosure prevention and lender negotiations.
