Children are often deeply traumatized by their experience with homelessness. Housing Hope uses multiple approaches to address the problems of such children. Through concentrated efforts, these young people can thrive just like other children.
Tomorrow’s Hope Childcare Center: Snohomish County ’s only licensed childcare facility specifically designed to serve homeless children, Tomorrow’s Hope provides a safe and nurturing environment for over 100 children daily. We serve children of resident families from Housing Hope and other local shelters, families using subsidized childcare, and private pay families. The caring staff is trained to address the many issues that can arise in children who have experienced trauma. Children at Tomorrow’s Hope experience a proven curriculum to meet their social, emotional and developmental needs. And, they get a chance to just play and be kids.
School Support: Academic success is an important tool for breaking the cycle of poverty for the children who reside in Housing Hope’s affordable housing. Our Child Specialist establishes strong working relationships with education programs throughout Snohomish County (preschool through high school), monitors children’s school performance and advocates for our resident families when necessary.
Special Needs Children: Many children in homeless families have developmental delays and emotional issues that need to be addressed. Housing Hope’s Child Specialist provides individual assessments and supports families to access appropriate community sources for intervention.
Recreational Opportunities: No childhood is complete without the joys of play. Housing Hope’s resident children are provided with playgrounds at every site. In addition, transitional and shelter parents are assisted by the Child Specialist to connect with Y-Communities, an Everett YMCA recreation program serving the special needs of homeless families. |
