Five households of the Tulalip Tribes have formed the first Self Help Housing Building Group on the Tulalip Reservation, working under Housing Hope’s supervision to achieve homeownership through a mutual effort in new home construction.
Building lots were set aside for this exciting opportunity at the new Mission Highlands subdivision under a Collaboration Agreement between Housing Hope and the Tulalip Tribes. The land is to be leased from the Tribes with construction financing provided by the USDA-Rural Development and the Federal Home Loan Bank.
This represents one of the first times in the nationwide history of the Self Help Housing program that this funding and program model have been paired on tribal land for tribal members. Housing Hope anticipates that the success of this first Building Group will lead to additional sweat equity homeownership opportunities for other Tulalip tribal members. Applications are being accepted to build the waiting list for a future Self Help Housing development on the Tulalip Reservation.
