Sergey and Valentina's Story

My wife and I applied [for the Self Help Housing Program] and after a short time they called us back to build a house.  It was very surprising for us because we thought it was going to take years for them to actually call us.  We started building the house and after one year it was complete.

We didn't pay a down payment because the working hours that we spent building the house covered the down payment.  When we moved into the house we paid 30% of our salary.  This really helped us very much because we have four children and no relatives to watch them, so my wife had to stay home and watch the children.  As a father, I was the only one in the family working and had to pay all the bills.  If Housing Hope didn't help us I don't know what I would have done or where I would be in my financial situation.  We could have still been living in our old apartment.

We are very thankful to Housing Hope.  We are immigrants, and [the Self Help Housing Program] helped us rise financially and keep our children raised right with my wife as a house mom.

We are very thankful that Housing Hope helped us.
