We put our name in to the program not expecting to be called up and allowed to participate. But after a few weeks of waiting, an employee from the Everett location cheerfully told us the good news that we'd been chosen. So, we ventured in.
Upon further information, and gladly accepting the terms and agreement, you cannot beat the way it works. A person has to put in time and effort before seeing the fruition of the program. Even better, is after the homes are built, the USDA allows the family to get on their feet. Eventually you modernize into a normal homeowner loan from a bank.
The best part that I enjoy most, is the fact that the government actually gets back all the money that was invested in the family, as well as some interest to boot (provided they go conventional in their financial loan). That way, the money goes back to help some other family have the dignity and pride of home ownership. Can you name another government program that can say that, and do that over and over? This is why I donate to the program, as well as be a staunch supporter of it. It simply works.
[The Self Help Housing Program] sure helped us out, and we are now on our own two feet, feeling like we got a helping hand to do what I feel any American would feel in home ownership. Proud. And since the program got all of the original loan back plus interest, I don't feel like a mooch, but rather like I earned the home.
